Open Ethics initiative runs and hosts projects important for the transparency ecosystem. As a non-profit initiative, their goal is to provide a home where projects, especially in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and autonomous decision-making domain, can build and support a community of contributors. They focus on making their tools human-centric and transparent, inculcating responsibility and balance, open standards and co-creation. SDG16 Strong Peace, Justice and Strong Institutional Systems is the primary focus Open Ethics AI has concentrated on to achieve Sustainable Development Goals 2030. In addition to this they impact SDG2 Zero Hunger, SDG3 Good health and wellbeing and SDG12 Responsible Consumption and Production as well. Open Ethics AI was rewarded for their efforts by EU Techs SDG AWARDS 2021 Award for SDG16.

Self-disclosure (or disclosure) has evolved greatly in the food industry as we got used to the food nutrition labels and nutrition tables. Proteins, fats, carbs, expiry dates, allergens, etc., are now our best friends at the shelves of a grocery store. They believe that their initiative could help disclose product risk in the same manner as we do for food (or electrical products, or construction materials). Its good to have a top-down regulation and make sure that our digital diet is safe. At the same time, one size fits all doesnt allow individual preferences. Self-disclosure allows individual choices which enable bottom-up regulatory mechanisms. Self-disclosure, thus, is essential for societies. However, as it happened in the other industries, every vendor may decide to disclose in their own manner. Complexities of the technical language and variability in the marketing wording make it hard for consumers to navigate. Obviously, Ethics need standards. One possible way is to agree on one single standard, specifying what vendors should do to allow calling their product Ethical AI (OR Trustworthy AI, OR Sustainable AI, OR Responsible AI, OR Best-in-the-universe AI).

The choice is a good thing. In a similar way how the ordinary consumer today pushes brands to demonstrate more sustainability efforts, tomorrow the new generation of consumers will demand algorithmic transparency. And this generation will get what they demand. They believe that they should make it possible for consumers to create their own digital diet and become selective in their risk choices. To adopt standards education is needed. Educating a large group of consumers to gain a critical mass of those who understand and care is a larger objective that is in front of governments and the industry.

The Open Ethics Transparency Protocol (OETP) describes the creation and exchange of voluntary ethics disclosures for IT products across the supply chain. The Protocol describes how disclosures for data collection and data processing practice are formed, stored, validated, and exchanged in a standardized and open format. We see multiple possible ramifications allowing for societies to gain control over their digital diets. In short, they stress upon how open-sourced ethics can benefit the world at large, easily replicated worldwide if companies and consumers understand the value it provides.

Starting date of project: 2020

Duration: 2 years (ongoing)

Allianz, in cooperation with Startsocial and Wellcome, created “Seidabei” to promote civic engagement in a sustainable and permanent manner. This social initiative offers its employees to work voluntarily with a charitable organization. Employees can choose a social project using an online portal. This initiative highlights an efficient example of corporate responsibility.

As CEO of Allianz Deutschland AG Dr. Klaus-Peter Rhler stated I’ve been supporting Startsocial myself for many years and I’m thrilled that with the new engagement platform we’ve found a way to make Allianz’s social engagement even more flexible and anchor it in the company. In Germany, we have been supporting an ideas competition for social startups since 2001: startsocial e.V.!

Allianz employees are passionately involved as coaches or jurors year after year they discover outstanding initiatives there. Jambo Bukoba e.V., Hackerschool gmbH , Zeltschule e.V. oder wellcome gGmbH are just a few examples. In addition, five childrens aid organizations of Allianz for Children and Young People have been active in Germany for over 25 years.

Collectively, in the past year almost 300 projects were supported. The focus is on young people who need special support due to their physical, mental, emotional or social development. Allianz were recognized for their outstanding contribution to SDG17 Partnership for the Goals, by EU Tech Chambers SDG AWARDS 2021. Seidabei additionally contributes to SDG4 Quality Education, SDG5 Gender Equality, SDG8 Decent Work and Economic Growth and SDG10 Reduced Inequalities.

Mutual understanding and trust in each other is important for the success of a joint collaboration. At the beginning, there was the realization that Allianz employees were partially supporting NGOs for the duration of an ideas competition. After that, paths generally diverged. But why shouldnt we support NGOs in the long term and, above all, how?, says Tanja Olbert, Award recipient from Allianz.

She realized that a common platform of the NGOs would be beneficial. How to find a simple technical solution? which on the one hand meets Allianz standards, but on the other hand does not overburden the NGOs.

GettyImages 671270084

These basic things were challenging at the beginning. But important and right to develop the platform uniquely. Today they have created a scalable platform that many Allianz companies in Germany can use at the same time the technical core is transferable to other international Allianz companies.

On the other hand, in discussions with other companies she noticed that there is a lack of belief in the professionalism of NGOs. NGOs do not work better or worse in many areas; they work differently than commercial companies. And to be honest, in some things they admit they can learn a lot, from NGOs. NGOs react incredibly quickly to changing conditions and are 100% empathetic to their customers. Here they believe learn a lot of lessons can be learnt.
My credo is: Give each other trust and always communicate openly and transparently the result of the cooperation will surprise everyone.

Sedabeis goal is to be able to make the platform available to other companies, or for them to be part of their community. New product developments cost money and resources we can also make these available digitally to other interested companies. On the one hand, Tanja is convinced that they act as a role model and encourage other companies and NGOs to work together in partnership.

On the other hand, she hopes that they will find more seidabei followers who support their approach:
Meeting the coming social challenges together. Their aim is to be a pioneer for resource-saving solutions! And at the same time to inspire other business enterprises and non-profit organizations to embark on a sustainability journey together. We can only master the coming challenges together, Tanja believes.

Ultimately, it is about creating alliances in partnership with completely different players.

Nanopools brilliant NP technology serves SDG15, Life on Land, as a sustainable protection solution for the agricultural sector using naturalness, easy cleaning, longer product lifespan and green alternatives to change known solutions. They hope to fully integrate bio-compatible barrier layer to increase capability of protecting seeds, plants as well as crops against biotic and abiotic stress in a very natural way. This treatment significantly reduces pesticides, fungicides or herbicides that are released into the soil and thus into the entire ecosystem during conventional arable farming, while at the same time increasing the crop yield. With their approach they support several SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) at the same time, by reducing the use of chemicals, improves the condition of the arable land and preserves biodiversity (SDG 15, Life on Land). This also improves the water quality in the long term (SDG6, Clean Water). The health of nature and animals automatically has a positive effect on human health (SDG3, Good Health) after all, some of the most toxic pesticides have long been detected in human tissue. And with the simultaneous increase of crop yields, (SDG1, No Poverty) and (SDG2, Zero Hunger) are also driven forward. Their technology has a wide range of use for hygiene purposes in industries, construction/architecture, foodtech, homes and offices besides agri use.

Nanopool has won multiple awards for their innovative and sustainable solution, Green Product Award, Best of 2022, Green Worlds Award Winner 2022, EU Tech Chambers SDG AWARDS 2021 for SDG15 and the Golden Green Ambassador Award 2020 besides a host of other Awards, recognizing their achievements.

They believe that the fundamental difficulty that new ideas must face on the market is the fact that innovations often threaten to displace established products and methods. In many sectors, visionary companies are in opposition to a lobby of long-established market leaders who, despite all sustainability concerns, have to defend their position out of financial interests. Nanopool thinks, top companies and lobbies who have usually established a lot of power in politics and business, are a huge obstacle to all innovation.

The aim of Nanopool is to enable production that can be implemented quickly in all regions of the world without additional costs and CO2 emissions from transport. This can be made possible by a decentralized approach with the transfer of knowledge and licenses to local partners. The uncomplicated and safe application without additional equipment also makes the solution affordable for regions with little financial resources. Partnerships, business networking and increased investment can increase usage of their technology globally. Nanopools approach is to meet challenges in such a way that they also offer solutions to other topics. Their application for plants and crops for example makes it possible to practice agriculture that maintains soil health and biodiversity on the one hand, and at the same time strengthens plant growth and thus increases harvests, which in result fights hunger and poverty.

Innovation and technological progress are key to discovering lasting solutions to economic and environmental challenges, such as increasing energy and resource efficiency.

They design solutions that do more with less from renewable sources, following circular economy guidelines or cradle to cradle, products and processes that contribute to industry decarbonization, Glasst wants to replace or reduce significantly the use of non-renewable plastic, improving environmental footprint and impacts.

Alexander Hernandez Muoz, Head R&D Department, Glasst Innovation Company, mentioned SDGs focused projects of Glasst while sharing his insights with Visions for Europe Magazine, innovation and technological progress are key to discovering lasting solutions to economic and environmental challenges, such as increasing energy and resource efficiency.

GLASST has found through its R&D team environmental solutions that mitigate major environmental impacts such as the use of single-use plastics in construction and the use of harmful irritants such as diesel through materials technology.

One of the targets for SDG 9 is Glassts higher purpose of innovating in traditional industries and markets by thinking outside the box, generating sustainable solutions, developing technologies that accelerate the creation of materials efficiently.

Glasst has also faced difficult challenges in the implementation of new sustainable technology.

The biggest challenge Glasst faced was related with the resistance to change and the general tendency to make decisions based solely on price, almost every end user or client declare their interest and compromise to be more sustainable, but this compromise implies additional efforts, alliances, strategies, to effectively close the loop of the materials.

The companys business model is based on decentralized production and collaborative economy as strong drivers of sustainability; reducing developments carbon footprint, allowing them to maintain and improve living standards, and preventing the destruction of their inhabitable environment.

The global scaling plans of the company are focused on the development of local capacities with strategic locations that make Glasst to be rational with the impacts associated with transportation, with flexible production models protected by black box formulas.

The company aims to leave a positive footprint by protecting both people and planet in a cost-effective way.

Boreal Light GmbH is a Berlin-based company specialized on renewable energy solution for water treatment facilities. The company designs and manufactures affordable solar water desalination systems for off-grid communities around the globe. Systems manufactured by Boreal Light can deliver high quality hygiene drinking, irrigation, fish farm and sanitation water from any kind of high saline and polluted water resources.

Boreal Light deals with the necessities of people i.e., water, energy, and food. Through water, they deeply engage with SDG # 6, and then since all their systems are powered by solar energy, they fall into SDG # 7 as well. Moreover, combining the two begets to SDG # 2 of zero hunger through their community farming projects. The fusion between those three SDGs brings more impacts and touches SDG # 1 for poverty reduction, SDG # 3 for health, SDG # 9 for industry, innovation, and infrastructures, and finally SDG # 13 for climate action. It is pertinent to mention that each of their projects generates hundreds of carbon credit per year and contributes on both mitigation and adaptation strategies combating climate change.

The biggest challenge faced by the company is to differentiate between what is green washing and what is impact. Another challenge that is hindering development is the mind-set of the people. Regardless of you are in a remote village or in the heart of the most cosmopolitan city in Europe, changing peoples mind-set is a challenge. To overcome that, the company is intensively investing on education and vocational training in communities they engage.

Boreal Light aims for capacity building around the nexus of water and energy; SDG # 6 and SDG # 7. Their vision to imagine for the sustainable tech is the day when sustainable technologies will not be a choice. That is what they would love to see as the long-term global impact of a technology, as an umbrella where many others can join and benefit the shade.

Urban Crop Solutions is an end-to-end indoor farming solutions provider, supporting clients with contract research trials, business planning, as well as the engineering and construction of indoor farms. Their award-winning indoor farming solutions can be commissioned and scaled anywhere in the world, from remote islands to crowded metropoles.

To make the world a better place for all those that live on it is the foremost mission of Urban Crop Solutions. They achieve this mission by integrating indoor vertical farming into supply chains. Indoor farming itself contributes directly to several of the SDGs of which include but are not limited to SDG 3: Good Health & Wellbeing, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption & Production, and SDG 15: Life on Land.

The company now works with key stakeholders in both SMEs and larger corporations to improve their sustainable practices. And as well within several research consortiums with the ultimate goal of making agriculture more circular, and thus, the cities and communities more sustainable.

Through the indoor vertical farming technology alone, Urban Crop Solutions focuses on several SDGs by optimizing the nutritional value of plants, reducing the water consumption per kilo by 95% compared with traditional agriculture and installing technology close to the point of consumption or utilization, depending on the plant application.

When delivering a solution like Urban Crop Solutions, it is imperative to always keep in mind local differences, even if addressing global challenges. As the challenges will vary based on geographic location.

In addition, Urban Crop Solution is well aware that if financial sustainability cannot be achieved, no impact can be generated. The company has, therefore, always prioritized sustainable design in technology, while focusing R&D on maximizing useable outputs and generating inputs.

Sarin Fam Co. was established in 2007 and covers an area of 10,000 square meters and more than 2,500 square meters of production buildings, clean rooms, research department on edible and medicinal mushroom. It is the laboratory to produce spawn and mother culture with a team of researchers in the fields of agriculture, medicine, biotechnology, and bio resonance.

The companys initiative to achieve the second goal of sustainable development and zero hunger is the use of mushrooms. Although mushrooms can help them achieve the 17 goals of the UN SDG, given the importance of zero hunger, they are most focused on this issue. Moreover, the company has turned to the production of more agricultural and livestock products to provide the food needed by human consumption and to produce more using a variety of chemical fertilizers and pesticides that pose many risks to human health.

Sarin Fam Co. introduced new initiatives and plans for sustainable development goals, in some cases, the plans can change the game or even shift the paradigm. Due to economic sanctions and problems with the exchange of goods and money, the company had to face export restrictions for accessing their products by other communities. Another challenge was the significant difference in prices and costs of production and services in different communities, along with cumbersome administrative rules and regulations, especially in the export sector.

The idea and goal of the company is to turn everything, all the agricultural waste, into useful products. In countries with big agricultural industries, agricultural waste is one of the main problems, and with the production of phase 3 substrate, this waste can be used as raw material in mushroom production and create significant added value. The horizon of the mushroom industry in the world is very wide and exciting, and Sarin Fam Co. creates innovations and new ideas every day during its 20 years of activity, and they anticipate that in the coming years, the mushroom industry will create a great change in various industries.

Name of Project : Saving lives of mothers and newborns in Nigeria

Rotary is a global network of 1.4 million problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe. Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger.

The implementation and integration of technology in their projects helps them further the objectives to make progress in SDGs # 3 and 5. For example to ensure relevance, action, equality and equity, community and stakeholder meetings will be organized in inclusive safe environments, ensuring communication matches audience time schedules to successfully receive information.

SDG Focused project that is currently under implementation is Saving lives of mothers and newborns in Nigeria with the aims of reducing maternal and neonatal mortality by 25% by 2025 and reaching 2.3 million people with key messages and services. During the project, women were given trainings on how to prevent mother-to-infant HIV transmission, how to breast-feed, and how to protect themselves and their children from disease.

This mandate is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal # 3 reducing maternal and child mortality and ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health care services, Goal # 5 gender equality and empowerment of women and girls and Goal # 17 strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.

The central aim of this endeavor is to foster improvements in human well-being and dignity, women’s empowerment and a sustainable balance between population and environment. These objectives are in line with the SDG # 3.

The most difficult challenge faced by Rotary is the ability to fund their projects. Ideally, it would be great to integrate solar powered panels in the training centers for nurses and midwives, lowering the electricity costs and accessing clean green energy.

Additionally, they are currently working with a partner organization in implementing a certified carbon credit program with family planning at its core, but this also requires significant funding.

As geared toward Maternal and Child Health, their wish for the future is that the sustainable tech industry creates more tools to aid organizations in their mission to improve the lives of current and future generations. Rotary aims to work alongside future breakthroughs in sustainable technology and do the utmost to find financing sources and implement projects in mother and child health that use newer, cleaner, and more sustainable technologies.

intervivos is an association of experts in the fields of medical technology, healthcare and digitalization who are rethinking the healthcare industry. intervivos unique approach to achieving sustainable development is to provide responsible and equitable access to healthcare and wellness. The company provides people around the world with access to affordable diagnostics and preventive care. They rely on innovative medical technologies such as PCR micro labs and digital solutions for access to healthcare.

Last year, intervivos started as a local non-profit initiative for free coronavirus diagnostics becoming one of the leading providers of coronavirus diagnostics in Europe now. With over 1000 members of the intervivos family, they are working together with communities to combat and contain the pandemic. In Germany alone, they have contributed to the health and well-being of over one million people.

intervivos developed specialized solutions to open unserved markets. Africa is the Forgotten continent when it comes to immunization and testing. With a 7 percent vaccination rate and virtually no testing options for people, they bring testing and vaccination to Africa.

A huge challenge faced by the company was the profit orientation and shareholder value which slowed down the impact of sustainable business. To enable social lives right at the point of care, intervivos required smaller, faster, and easier-to-use laboratory equipment. Another challenge was to find the right fit of cost-effectiveness (to motivate as many people as possible for a test) and reliability. Local misinformation became another hurdle in the companys way. Especially in a previously wholly unknown field to most consumers, they had to educate both customers and employees.

As more health crises develop around the world, sustainable diagnostic technologies are at the forefront of safeguarding global health and saving lives. To create a long-term impact on communities worldwide, intervivos aims to create a health system based on equity and justice while promoting innovation and sustainability.

Name of Project: The Twende Initiative

Starting date of project: 2013

Duration: Present

Femme International is committed to teaching females in developing countries about menstrual health and providing healthy & sustainable alternatives to traditional menstrual management. Schoolgirls in Kenya miss an average of 4 days of school each month due to their menstruation phases. In a lifetime, this can mean up to 5 years of education lost. Without access to feminine hygiene products, girls often resort to using mud, newspaper, tissue, bits of mattress, rags, and even previously used pads and tampons. These methods are uncomfortable, unsanitary, and dangerous to the girls health and safety.

Femme International started their journey to break the period taboo by educating, engaging communities in conversations, and providing access to sustainable menstrual products. Throughout their way, the company had to face some huge challenges such as lack of resources, lack of technical operations awareness and very less know-how to integrate programming systems adequately/sustainably. However, their decision to focus on low-tech solutions became cognizant of most of the communities that they support who either have no access to tech infrastructure or resources to sustain their efficient operations.

Femme International plans to create menstrual friendly communities that are going to continue to support the future generation of menstruators who will find the communities more open to discussing menstrual health, regardless of gender and age. Moreover, they aim to achieve financial sustainability to secure the longevity of their programmes and operations with a belief that sustainable impact starts with adjusting their individual carbon footprint.

Switching to sustainable menstrual products will play a huge role towards conserving the environment and impacting climate change from an individual scale which then will create a ripple effect and push for others to participate through peer influence.

Name of Project: The Water Hyacinth

Duration: Continue

Kabena prioritizes using limited and most valuable resources: time and capital to increase life quality of people by decreasing poverty and preserving the beauty of nature. Kabenas approach is to think global and act local, focusing on individual needs hence foster a diverse world that resonates well. In this way Kabena advocates for better rights for all marginalized communities in society.

The way of implementing the Global Goals within an economic viable business is well illustrated by their endeavor at Lake Victoria, the biggest freshwater lake in Africa. The lake is badly infested by a highly destructive weed water hyacinth which basically depletes dissolved oxygen from the water body causing a cascade of life-threatening effects.

Approaching this problematic scenario by deeply understanding its origin first gave Kabena the clear vision and high certainty to convert this problem into a major opportunity. Eventually to achieve the goals desire the most today, like sustainability, circular economy, you name it. They rescue Lake Victoria from its infestation and take advantage of water hyacinth at the same time to develop these riparian communities in a green manner. By harvesting the weed and harnessing its energy-producing potential the company is able to convert it into a source of endless clean energy available 24/7, as well as organic fertilizer to bring back fertility to the eroded farmland to bring true impact to this region. This includes the contribution to each of all 17 SDGs.

Marcel Wroblewski, Head of Communications & Nextgen at Kabena, stated in the interview with Visions for Europe, the biggest challenge related to local communities in Lake Victorias vicinity was to be compliant to all 17 SDGs with PlantBlue that is named Homa Bay Biogas for our first and foremost masterpiece. After we made the project economically viable, we thought about the real things in life which matter most and therefore took the most suitable measurement for such a diverse topic, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Each region that thinks and acts in line with the manner of PlantBlue can become a global leader for modern and sustainable infrastructure to achieve the Global Goals including net-zero in a much faster pace. The implementation of such a system enables strong partnerships to neighboring countries and increased competitiveness in global export markets.

Name of Project: ADILI SOLAR HUBS ACH1 PROJECT

Adili Solar Hubs Limited uses clean energy to deploy productive use of energy (PUE) solutions in the water and food sectors to elevate the economies of marginalized communities. Their pilot sustainable Tech solution is a Fish processing and a water treatment facility in Longech. The location has no access to clean water residents by water from the mainland at $0.8 per 20L jerrican, which is 16 times more expensive than the cost of water in an urban location. Adili Solar Hubs Limited works towards solving the global challenges with SDGs at the heart of most of its operations.

The breakdown of Adilis SDG focused activities as follows:

SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth:

By providing a ready market for the fisherfolk at their landing sites at Lake Turkana Adilis project provides decent work and economic growth for the community.

Conventionally, the fisherfolk in Longech could only sell their fish as dried, salted, smoked, or fried product. While the shelf life of traditionally preserved fish is long, the market value is low. The nutritional value and taste are also diminished through the traditional preservation methods.

SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

Adilis fisherfolk benefit from better prices for their product because Adili can deliver the fresh fish to urban markets 800 Km away. As a technology company, Adili lets free the fisherfolk by bearing the investment costs and risks of enhancing the value of the Turkana fish through modern cold chain management services that are high energy consuming and require technical expertise to maintain.

SDG 9: Industry Innovation and Infrastructure

Adili has taken an innovative approach to the implementation of sustainable technology. They implement IoT technology to monitor the operation of all equipments these include cold room, ice flake machine, RO water purification system, water flow, and others.

SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation

For hygienic processing Adili needs to integrate water treatment facilities in a region where there is no access to clean water. As such they installed a well with a solar powered pump to supply the facility with raw water which is also supplied to the nearby school for their non-potable use.

SDG 14: Life Below Water

Adili is implementing a fish waste management program to upcycle the fish waste generate during operations. They still feed the organic waste generated from gutting and cleaning the fish into a biodigester which will generate biogas and an organic effluent that can be used for irrigating and fertilizing a vegetable garden.

SDG 2: Zero Hunger

Access to more affordable high-quality fish and reducing post-harvest losses in the fish value chain is a win for SDG 2 in the fish industry.

High quality sustainable technology often has high investment costs. Kimani Gichuche, Executive Director, Adili Solar Hubs Limited stated in an interview with Visions for Europe Magazine, acquiring state of the art technology with excellent ROIs and prove cases for scalability are among the most difficult challenges to overcome in our settings.

Kimani added, our company has handled hard challenges while enabling our sustainable tech accessible to different communities, like bureaucracy, securing the cold chain of custody throughout the supply chain of fresh fish from source to market is costly, access to hi-tech consumable materials etc.

In the expansion plan Adili will scale up their RO technology enabling them to deliver the entire community with clean potable water as well as raw water for nonportable use.

Husk is one of the worlds leading distributed utilities providing reliable power to rural communities and businesses, entirely from renewable energy sources 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at a price they can afford. Husk has taken a 360-degree approach to innovation, looking at technology, business model and financing when determining how to best electrify communities in rural Africa and Asia that have never had an energy supply. The company uses a hybrid of solar, waste biomass gasification and batteries in its microgrids, enabling 24/7 power that is 100% renewable and hence achieving affordable and clean energy goal.

William Brent, Chief Marketing Officer at Husk shared with Visions for Europe, Husk currently has about 140 sites in India, Nigeria and Tanzania, and is targeting 10x growth to about 1,400 microgrids in the coming 4-5 years. In January 2022, it signed a UN Energy Compact to build 5,000 microgrids by 2030 and connect 1 million customers, half of them small businesses. Besides providing electricity, Husk is also serving its communities with a range of services, including agro-processing, irrigation and cold chain, e-mobility and clean water provision.

Although contributing virtually nothing to the environmental shocks caused by climate change, the communities that Husk serves are actually the most climate vulnerable. Microgrids are a solution that can create more resiliency in rural Africa and Asia, but providing a decentralized solution that can still function and perform amid increased flooding, drought, heat etc. The disruption to supply chains because of the Covid pandemic also reinforced the role off-grid and weak grid microgrids can play in ensuring basic services like power.

Husk not only provides renewable electricity to the community it serves, but it also works closely with local micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to help them transition away from diesel generation, thus reducing their emissions and helping them save money on their monthly energy expenses. Husk serves more than 6,000 MSMEs today and is targeting 500,000 by 2030.

In its Energy Company signed with the United Nations in 2022, Husk committed to several long term 2030 goals:

1) Building 5,000 mini grids that connect 1 million customers, including 500,000 small businesses, and benefit 11 million people

2) Installing 500 megawatts of standalone solar projects for rural commercial and industrial customers,

3) Avoiding 7 megatons of CO2 emissions,

4) Selling 5 million energy efficient appliances/machines to households and business to enable more economic and social benefit.

Composite Recycling has developed a unique process to recover glass fibers from composite material in an economically viable way. Together with the Laboratory of Advanced Composites of EPFL, they are scaling up the process to treat composite waste that is piling up: boats, wind turbine blades etc.

The companys goal, in alignment with SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, is to make GFRP a circular material. Their technology uses a process called pyrolysis, which heats a material in a low oxygen environment. The output of this process is clean glass fibers and pyrolysis oil. Unlike previous attempts to use pyrolysis to recycle GFRP, Composite Recycling does not require the material to be ground up which allows them to preserve the long glass fibers for resale and reuse in circular products.

Composite Recycling is helping companies that make GFRP products deal with their production wastes so that they can be more sustainable and circular. This could include anything from the waste produced by boat manufacturers to oil drill part manufacturers. During the manufacturing process a lot of scraps are produced, which typically go straight into a non-renewable waste stream, such as landfill. Their technology allows these manufacturers to directly recycle the scrap material at their production site to help them meet their sustainability goals.

Composite Recycling has not yet faced any major challenges in making technology accessible to different communities, however they are still very early in their commercialization and expansion phase.

Composite Recycling aims to make the 2.4 million tons of GFRP waste produced every year circular. The company believes the demand for recycling technologies and circular products is growing at a record rate. Consumers are demanding greener products and governments are regulating end-of-life solutions for waste. Composite Recycling will be one of many wastes stream specific companies which will arise in the coming years to meet this demand.

Name of Project: Climate Action Partnership

Starting date of project: 2020

Duration: 2 years (ongoing)

As a Climate Consultancy Go.Blue.Now supports companies with an innovative initiative in showing their customers, investors & employees that they are taking sustainability seriously. The aims of the project are to support clientele with CO2 footprints, science-based climate targets, CO2 reduction plans & sustainability reports, they have chosen SDG 13, take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts (Climate Action), as their primary focus. Addressing the Climate Crisis necessarily involves people. First, convince people to act. Nevertheless, technology plays an important role for Corporate Climate Action.

Go.Blue.Nows approach heavily relies on data. They think its crucial to measure, save and access data. Technology has yet another big impact on Go.Blue.Nows activities. The Climate Crisis requires efforts at all levels.

Directly influenced SDGs are shifting to an Affordable and Clean Energy System (SDG 7), providing Decent Work & Economic Growth (SDG 8) in the forward-looking renewable energy industry, Good Health & Well-being through less air pollution (SDG 3) and upgrading the existing industrial and energy infrastructure for sustainability (SDG 9). Renewables limit global heating, which is a key driver for the current mass extinction of species. By means of reduced CO2 emissions you contribute to Life on Land (SDG 15) & Below Water (SDG 14). In the long run sourcing renewable energy also fosters Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16) as well as Partnerships for the goals (SDG 17). This is particularly true because renewables increase both the independence from fossil fuel supplying countries and are a driver for international cooperation regarding renewable energy supply and demand. As you can see Climate Action on the level of individual companies even has an impact on SDGs on a global level.

In collaboration with EU Tech Chamber and M&P Group, they also offer expertise in renewable energies, energy consulting, environmental technology, waste, and real estate management. To summarize, they integrate knowledge about a vast number of technologies into their consulting approach to offer the most impactful solutions to our customers. Go.Blue.Now received the EU Tech SDG AWARDS 2021 Award for SDG13.

Go.Blue.Nows approach relies on people. The Climate Crisis is not primarily a technological issue its about politics, habits, and mind-sets. All stakeholders employees, customers, investors, governments and many more need to accept and master new technologies and climate protection innovations. In most cases, mindset-changes and true collaboration are harder to achieve than technical skills, challenges aptly met by their approach. Next, they need an appropriate model for estimating the climate impact of your companys activities. This step can be quite challenging since its important to ensure accuracy and feasibility at the same time. The decision depends on the customers needs regarding accuracy and involves emission factor databases and data analysis.

Of course, technological adaptation plays a role but change management starts with people.

As a business owner, you can start making an impact today. And if companies think their contribution does not have an impact because their organization is too small: 99% of all companies are SMEs

Reduce emissions within clients company and respect the carbon law. Walk the talk.

Go.Blue. Now will need to scale their operations in the future especially about upcoming regulations. This involves automated tools and eventually Software Development. They expect that more companies will have systems in place to collect carbon accounting data in a lean and efficient way.

Still, for the interpretation, final conclusions as well as identifying new trends for reduction measures they will rely on skilled human professionals. In order to fully realize their potential, networking with companies and businesses, who understand the relevance of their services, will remain the core objective for Climate Action partnership to succeed and be replicated globally.

UNDA, together with customers, is additionally committed to achieving the following goals: clean water and sanitation SDG6, sustainable consumption and production SDG12, climate action SDG13, life below water SDG14, life on land SDG15 and partnerships to achieve the goals SDG17.

UNDA has been featured in WIRED, GQ, Vogue and BZ publications as well as winner of EU Techs SDG Awards 2021 for SDG14 and in EU Tech publications.

Creating a new market is a big challenge, because the UNDA is an invention: The worlds first sustainable multifunctional bottle for drinking, eating, and storing. The customers must learn how the UNDA differs from classic drinking bottles. Videos and Influencers are the best way to show the multifunctionality of the bottle.

The innovative 3-in-1 technology made it possible for the first time to produce a sustainable multi-functional bottle that is, on the one hand, a practical mobile catering system transporting drinking and eating. And on the other hand, it generates no waste due to its 100% recyclability. The user can prevent waste without compromising on their lifestyle. As a result, every UNDA buyer can reduce their environmental footprint. They believe, SDGs can be better served globally by selling their product worldwide, decreasing the use of one-time plastics, replacing it with a sustainable, permanent solution instead.

Additive Minds Academy is the EOS education provider for the Additive Manufacturing (AM) industry. They enable people and organizations worldwide to use the potential of industrial 3D printing for responsible manufacturing. In cooperation with renowned partners, Additive Minds Academy has developed a comprehensive online training program to optimize onboarding processes and accelerate your knowledge buildup at the forefront of additive manufacturing innovation. Their portfolio consists of online courses for all levels of expertise.

During the last three years, the company disrupted the areas of training, learning and knowledge by taking the content from analogue classrooms to the digital world. They created up to 100% online learning in blended learning concepts for eight different job roles within additive manufacturing.

The biggest challenge is that the company faced was to create awareness especially during Covid when you have no fairs and no appropriate digital event to reach manual thinking & acting customer.

Their aim is to reduce emissions and usage of natural resources and cut down the time to solve problems which will result in cost saving, speed of production and speed in education & scaling. Moreover, they plan to combine all benefits from industry 4.0 to save our environment and give our minds freedom of creativity by eliminating recurring manual processes by artificial intelligence and serve you individually with the portion of knowledge & learning you need to proceed.
