Waste reduction is an important issue in the Americas, where significant amounts of waste are generated every day. To address these challenges, it is important to implement a range of waste reduction strategies that consider local conditions and cultural norms.
To learn more about this topic, the EU Tech Chamber (EUTECH) Americas Alliance organised a webinar on April 12, 2023. The topic under discussion was, ” Key Challenges for Waste Reduction in the Americas “.
The webinar started off with a brief overview of the organization and a formal introduction of the panelists by our moderator, Mr. Jacopo Frattini who is the coordinator of the Americas Alliance.
During the webinar, the speakers highlighted the emergence of Industry 5.0 and the shift in mindset among individuals and businesses from wastefulness to waste reduction. The speakers also discussed the issue of Digital Waste, which is waste generated from electronic devices and digital technology. They presented facts and figures related to the amount of digital waste generated every year and the need for proper disposal and recycling of electronic devices.
Moreover, the speakers discussed the waste prevention framework, which is a set of principles and strategies aimed at reducing waste generation and promoting a circular economy. Lastly, the webinar introduced the audience to different types of waste, such as physical waste (e.g., plastics, metals, paper), social waste (from cultural practices), urban waste (from cities), and process waste (from industrial processes).
We want to thank our speakers for their informed insights on today’s topic. Moreover, special thanks to Mr. Jacopo Frattini for moderating the webinar and distributing Tree-Certificates to the panelists.
Above all, sincere thanks to all our attendees – your comments, compliments, and questions. Stay tuned for our next Americas Alliance webinar on May 10, 2023, at 3:00 pm (CEST), about “New Tech for Waste Reduction in Americas”.
