The use of technology is at the forefront of efforts to provide equal and high-quality education to all students. This is accomplished through digital initiatives, which encompass a range of tools and resources such as online learning platforms, digital educational materials, virtual classrooms, and educational games and apps.
To take a closer look, the EU Tech Chamber (EUTECH) SDG Alliance organized a webinar on February 09, 2023. The topic under discussion was, “Digital Initiatives to Ensure Equitable & Quality Education”.
The webinar started off with a brief overview of the organization and a formal introduction of the panelists by Mr. Osama Ali, who is the coordinator of the SDG Alliance.
The four panelists who participated in today’s event were:
· Dr. Ikechi Agbugba, PhD, Agribusiness Activist and Researcher,
· Ms. Claire Benson, Founder & Managing Director at SDG Changemakers,
· Mr. Rajeshwar Bachu, CEO & Founder of Zero-Carbon and Co-founder of 42hacks,
· Ms. Janet Chapman, Founder of Crowd2Map Tanzania.
While addressing the webinar, the speakers focused on the importance of digital initiatives in ensuring equitable and quality education for all students. They also discussed some challenges that are associated with digital initiatives. A few challenges were perpetuated existing, inequalities, localization of content, use of AI, and misinformation.
Moreover, the speakers also discussed ways in which digital initiatives can contribute to the society. Some of them were online learning, personalized learning, increased accessibility, improved student engagement, and improved teacher training.
It is pertinent to mention here that while digital initiatives can be a beneficial way to enhance equitable and high-quality education, they must be thoughtfully planned and executed while considering factors such as digital accessibility, privacy concerns, and teacher preparation.
We want to thank our respectable speakers for their informed insights on this much-needed topic. Moreover, special thanks to Mr. Osama Ali for moderating the webinar and distributing Tree-Certificates to the panelists.
Above all, sincere thanks to all our attendees – your comments, compliments, and questions. Stay tuned for our next SDGs Alliance webinar on March 16, 2023, about “How Technology is Changing Waste Management?”
