Impact investment supports social entrepreneurs and their businesses. Therefore, it is critical for capital to flow into emerging and frontier markets for the development of successful and equitable economies.
To address this issue, the EU Tech Chamber (EUTECH) Women in Tech (WiT) Alliance organised a seminar on October 25, 2022. The topic under discussion was, “Impact investing Projects in Emerging Markets”.
The webinar started off with an introductory note by Ms. Sierra von Tucher, Board Member of the WiT Alliance, followed by a short EUTECH overview and a formal introduction of the three panelists by our moderator, Ms. Svetlana Nyameyo who is also the coordinator at the EUTECH Chamber.
The first of the four accomplished panelists were Ms. Arielle Molino, Associate Vice President at Intellecap. Next in line we had Dr. Ayesha Khan who is the Regional Managing Director at Acumen, then, we had Ms. Yijing Wang who is the Founder Partner and CEO of 2060 Advisory. Last but not the least, we had Mr. Milton O. who is the Financial Controller at TechBridge Invest Africa.
During the webinar, the speakers focused on the opportunities and challenges to growth within the emerging markets. They emphasized on some key opportunities such as agriculture, climate change, gender, and financial inclusions.
Some of the challenges that were discussed included non-uniform legislation, transparency, contractual protection, etc. Furthermore, several important recommendations to overcome these problems were:
• Better linkages across the ecosystem between different players
• Support in women establishing and running green project
• More sustained support for early-stage entrepreneurs to build a healthy pipeline
The panelists emphasized on the idea of women empowerment throughout the webinar encouraging young women to embrace the barriers and speak out for themselves. Promoted by the EUTECH and WiT Alliance, today’s digital talk aimed to empower women in the emerging markets.
We want to thank our experienced speakers for their informed insights on this. Moreover, special thanks to Ms. Svetlana Nyameyo for moderating the webinar and distributing Tree-Certificates to the panelists.
Above all, sincere thanks to all our attendees – your comments, compliments, and questions. Stay tuned for our next WiT Alliance webinar on November 22, 2022, at 9:00 am (CET), about “Women in Cybersecurity: Why diversity matters?”
